In 1981, Sarabeth and her husband Bill Levine opened a small retail store on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The store started out as a bakery and jam shop, where customers could see the jams being cooked in a kettle and ladled into jars. The aroma of fresh baked muffins, pastries, cookies and cakes wafted across Amsterdam Avenue luring customers into the tiny space to savor the goodies emerging fresh baked from her ovens. Customers clamored for more, so Sarabeth put in a few tables and started serving breakfast and lunch.
Soon, Sarabeth's reputation for making incredibly delicious breakfast dishes served with still warm croissants, muffins, pastries and breads and her luscious jams, spread across the metropolitan area. Lines formed outside the little shop, prompting Sarabeth and her husband Bill to consider expanding the number of restaurants to accommodate the growing number of Sarabeth's devotees. The highly regarded restaurants shown on this page have opened throughout the years, serving breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner and have received accolades from critics and customers alike. Stop in when you are in New York. It will be worth the visit!
